It's important that young people can recognise how their relationships with themselves and their peers make them feel. They also need to understand how they can build healthy relationships, and how to get support if their relationships are affecting their mental health and wellbeing.
This school pack provide the materials and resources needed to support pupils to understand:
- the importance of healthy relationships with themselves and their peers; and
- how to build and maintain healthy relationships.
The resources in this pack were developed the resources with pupils and schools who participated in our Peer Education Project (PEP). PEP is a mental health, school-based project that aims to improve the mental health literacy of pupils. The project is freely available to any UK and international school.
The pack is designed to be used in secondary schools, but it also has lots of useful information for primary schools.
The pack includes:
- An introduction to the Healthy Relationships Schools Campaign.
- A lesson plan with PowerPoint slides and worksheets, that support pupils to explore the topic of healthy relationships in more depth.
- An assembly plan with PowerPoint slides and posters to support the development of a whole-school approach to healthy relationships.
- Helpful guides for pupils, school staff, and caregivers on supporting ourselves and others with healthy relationships.
Many thanks to the pupils and staff at Royal High School Bath, Cardinal Griffin Catholic College, Rosebery School and Bayce School for supporting the development of this school pack.
“Learning to have a healthy relationship with yourself also involves learning to be ok with failures. We should embrace our failures and use them as lessons learned to aid our growth.”
“It’s important in a relationship to feel loved, supported and included. There should be healthy boundaries, and you should feel safe. A healthy relationship should be reciprocal and equal.”
