Our public engagement work is focused on offering the public evidence-based, free information to help them look after their own and their loved one's mental health.
We are the home of Mental Health Awareness Week, which takes place every May and marks other events like World Mental Health Day in October. Throughout the year, we run awareness campaigns targeting some of the people most at risk of mental ill-health.
You can find out more about some of our public engagement work below.
World Mental Health Day
Every year we celebrate World Mental Health Day on 10 October. The theme for 2023, set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, is ‘Mental health is a universal human right’.
Mental Health Awareness Week
We are the home of Mental Health Awareness Week, an annual event where there is an opportunity for the whole of the UK to come together to focus on getting good mental health.
Suicide prevention
There are things we can all do in situations where we are worried about someone who we think may be at risk of suicide. Talking about suicide can really make a difference.
Healthy Relationships
For this campaign, we partnered with Fastn and Leaders Unlocked to talk to young people about what's important, how they recognise, build and maintain healthy relationships, and how relationships impact mental health.
Behind the Books
The #BehindtheBooks university campaign aims to help uni students talk about their mental health, realise when they’re struggling, provide tips on coping, and normalise uni life's ups and downs.
Men's mental health
Explore our programmes of work supporting men's mental health, plus information, advice, blogs and stories from men sharing their experiences of mental health.
What's Up with Everyone?
This campaign aims to increase mental health literacy by understanding and managing life's challenges before they affect mental health.
Every Mind Matters
Every Mind Matters is a campaign run by NHS England, which features the mental health tool My Mind Plan at the heart of their resources and advice for those facing mental health problems.
Unlock Loneliness
The #UnlockLoneliness campaign aims to raise awareness of loneliness in young people, provide tips to help you cope and actions that the government can take to tackle loneliness.

The green ribbon is the international symbol of mental health awareness. Wear a green ribbon to show colleagues, loved ones or simply those you walk past that you care about their mental health.
