The Mental Health Foundation’s mental health assemblies are pre-prepared scripts and PowerPoints to explore different mental health topics with young people, primarily aged 11 and upwards.
The topics include:
- Body Image: How we think and feel about our bodies
- Nature: Connecting with the world around us
- Healthy relationships: With ourselves and our peers
- Kindness: Why kindness matters
- Loneliness: Finding our connections to feel less lonely
- Sleep: Finding our confidence with sleep
The assemblies have been developed from the Peer Education Project - a secondary school-based, educational programme that aims to give young people the skills and knowledge they need to safeguard their mental health and that of their peers.

Mental health is not ‘an add on’ or a one off. It's something that has to be developed and worked on by all staff – teachers, support and admin. Stigma has to be removed if we can work successfully with students and parents.
Feedback from our year 7s has been positive, they enjoyed learning about positive mental health and enjoyed having older students teaching them.
The students gained a deeper understanding of the varying situations that could affect a person's mental health, and what kind of support is available if these situations present themselves.
