Mark was appointed as the Mental Health Foundation's Chief Executive in October 2018.

Prior to that, Mark worked in international development, living and working in Asia and Africa. He has an MBA from the Open University. He also brings a lived experience of being bereaved by suicide.

Mark speaks and writes widely on a range of mental health topics. He is focused on building a vibrant organisation and delivering the Foundation’s new strategy with the aim of finding and addressing the causes of poor mental health and ensuring that people across the UK can live mentally healthier lives.

Mark is a co-chair of the Mental Health and Smoking Partnership, sits on the Government’s National Suicide Prevention Strategy Advisory Group and on the Advisory Group for the Royal College of Psychiatry’s Public Mental Health Implementation Centre.

Mark was awarded The President's Medal by the Royal College of Psychiatry in June 2022. He was previously Chair of Partners Relief and Development UK. He is married with a teenage son and loves running.
