Virtual fundraising ideas

We know this is a difficult time for many of you, with the spread of coronavirus impacting our lives in various ways. With multiple events being either cancelled or postponed, we figured we could give you some virtual fundraising ideas that you can do from the comfort of your own home.

If you need advice on looking after your mental health during this time, please have a look at our coronavirus advice pages.

Have a look at these tips for some virtual inspiration

1) Have a virtual pub quiz with your friends or family

With social distancing and isolation measures, a virtual pub quiz is a great way to stay in touch with loved ones while raising money for mental health! Choose a quiz master and create your own themed quiz. Everyone can donate £3 each to take part and video call in from their homes. Get quizzy with it! You can use the quizzes below made by our MHF events team!

2) Virtual Tea & Talk

We know thousands of you love our Tea & Talk flagship campaign, so why not host one online? You can still sign up as normal on the Tea & Talk page and get friends, family and colleagues to join you with a virtual cuppa. Each person can pay £2-£3 to join or whatever they feel comfortable donating.

3) Virtual Curry & Chaat

Similarly to Tea & Talk, Curry & Chaat is another great way to keep connected with others. Instead of your local takeaway, why not learn how to make your own curry from home using our delicious recipes?

4) Friday Night Drinks

Used to having a drink with colleagues or friends on a Thursday or Friday night? You still can! Have a drink together online, and each person can donate the price of their favourite drink to us.

5) Do a clear-out

That one drawer you keep saying you'll clear out, but it's been two years...now is the time! Spring clean your house and make piles of things you no longer need. You'd be amazed at how great you feel afterwards. Pop any unwanted items in good condition on e-bay and donate any profits to us!

6) Virtual Run

With the cancellation or postponement of various runs, why not do one yourself? Have a look at our events page for virtual runs and to find out more about how to get involved.

7) Plank challenge

Want to master a new skill? Do a plank challenge for 30 days and update your friends and family on social media with your progress. You could even film yourself doing the challenge! Either build up to a three-minute plank by the end of the month or do different variations of the plank every day to keep it interesting. Get the sponsorships in by promoting your challenge on social media.

8) MHF Live

Do you sing or play an instrument? You can hold your own MHF Live online and ask each person to donate to join! People can watch the concert from the comfort of their own homes.

9) Pack on the pounds

For every £1 someone donates, you can vow to do either a burpee per pound, or squat per pound...the choice is yours! The more people donate, the fitter you get!

10) Teach your skills

Are you qualified in anything? Why not teach your classes online and ask each student to donate a certain amount to us? They learn a new skill whilst donating towards mental health research.

Or you could create your own Facebook fundraiser!
